Earning Money During The Coronavirus Pandemic

Corona Virus

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve heard of the Coronavirus or COVID-19. However, there is a high probability that you’re personally affected by its impact on the world both socially and economically. Everyone I know, including myself, has lost their job or has had their life hindered in some sort of way. However, some people are fortunate enough to obtain employment insurance. Therefore, there are many people who may not qualify, are out of a job, and still have bills to pay.

It is truly a chaotic time in the world and my sympathies go out to anyone who may be personally affected. Therefore, we’re going to quickly go through a few ways to earn some money during these trying times. Many, if not all of these methods have been discussed on Wise Investments. However, the purpose of this article is to be concise and reiterate some methods that the readers may have missed.

1. Instacart

Instacart is a company that takes a new approach to food delivery. Although the concept of delivering food is an old one, Instacart makes the process profitable, convenient and affordable in many cases. So, what does Instacart do? They’re a company that allows people to create a list of items that they want which will later be brought to them by a driver within the area. It works the same as Uber Eats or Skip The Dishes.

An individual goes on the app and creates a grocery list of sorts. The person picks out various items that are available and pays for them through the app. The request then gets sent out and drivers around the area have the opportunity to accept. There are a ton of factors that’ll go into you accepting an order. However, the most common one will be your earnings. Some orders will allow you to earn as much as $50.

Above is a screenshot of multiple orders that need to be filled. Furthermore, it displays the estimated earnings. However, these earnings are an approximation. This means that you may not earn that exact amount. You may earn more or less depending on the order. However, there is a lot of room to make some extra cash. Furthermore, you have the potential to earn more money than you would at a regular job. This is especially true for those who work minimum wage jobs. Lastly, a service like this is in high demand. This is due to the fact that no one wants to go to a grocery store during the COVID-19 outbreak. Therefore, there is a lot of potential for earning.

2. Affiliate Marketing (Amazon Marketplace)

Affiliate marketing is a great way to earn money with a low investment. It’s extremely simple and can be done from the comfort of your own home. This will intrigue many due to the Coronavirus outbreak. What is affiliate marketing you ask? It’s a form of marketing where you promote various products and services for a small (or large) commission. It’s rather simple in practice.

First, you can choose a niche. The niche can be anything that you’re interested in. However, for the sake of this example, we’ll use phone cases. Join some affiliate programs that sell phone cases, the most common one would be Amazon. Once you set up an account you will have access to various products and their affiliate links. Now, all you have to do is promote them. You can do this via Facebook ads, Instagram, Twitter, and even Pinterest. The goal is to create content that looks appealing and will make people click on the product you’re promoting. Once they purchase it, you’ll get a commission depending on the affiliate program and product.

3. Food Delivery

Food delivery is a booming choice right now. Considering the fact tons of restaurants have closed their dining areas due to COVID-19, food delivery is the only option for many people. The amount you make can vary depending on where you live. However, it is completely practical for you to earn over $100 dollars in a day, allowing it to supplement your income. However, some services limit the number of couriers in a specific area. For example, Skip The Dishes is not currently accepting any new couriers within the Brampton/Toronto area at this moment. They have enough couriers to fill the demand.

Above is a quick video outlining Flip In Can‘s 1.5-hour shift with Skip The Dishes. It is important to note that with many of these food delivery services, you have to book shifts. It’s not like Uber where you can sit around and wait for an order. You book a shift if its available and that’ll be the times where you can collect and deliver orders. However, it is still a way to make some great side cash (or main source of income.)

4. Uber/Lyft

Uber, Lyft and any other ride-sharing service are great ways to earn money. I used to be an Uber driver to make some extra cash and I was definitely able to. However, I couldn’t always earn a lot of money. There are certain factors that need to be taken into account.

First, there are certain times where you make more money. This is at the beginning and end of workdays, or night-time on the weekends. These are the times where you’ll be able to find a consistent flow of passengers. Furthermore, your location matters a lot as well. Places like Milton and Brampton aren’t the best due to them being mostly residential areas. However, downtown Toronto and Etobicoke can be excellent places to earn money. There have been days where I’ve earned $40 and others where I’ve banked $150.

Ridesharing services can be great. However, due to the increased paranoia due to Coronavirus/COVID-19, many people are wary of entering a car with passengers. Therefore, if you are thinking of becoming a ride-sharing driver, keep your car clean at all times. Wear masks and gloves. Furthermore, you can even cover your seat in plastic to ensure an extra layer of protection and security.

5. Virtual Assistant

Becoming a virtual assistant is a great way to earn extra money from the comfort of your own home. I virtual assistant is a designated person who helps you with certain tasks from a remote location. For example, a virtual assistant can book meetings, adjust your calendar, and set up reminders. However, a virtual assistant can do more or less depending on the needs of who you’re hired by.

A virtual assistant‘s salary can vary greatly. However, based on 35 submitted salaries, the median income is almost $55,000. This is a tremendous amount of money. Especially if you consider the fact that virtual assistants have fewer expenses. They can effectively reduce costs on travel, clothing and even meals. The main expense will be your reliable internet and phone connection. However, becoming a virtual assistant is a great stay-at-home idea.
