woman-dominated

Looking through all of the blogs I’ve written, I noticed something. I’ve noticed that we have talked about a lot of jobs and how much they earn. However, many, if not all, of these jobs have a very common trait. They are all male-dominated industries. Therefore, it is time to include some diversity.

We are going to look at are the 10 most woman-dominated industries. Some of you may know a few while others may not. However, the point of this article is to educate those who may be unaware of where women are mainly represented within the workforce. Researching on this topic, I can say that I was genuinely intrigued by some of these industries. This is because they’re some of the biggest and most useful sectors that anyone can work in. Therefore, it’s time to look at what industries are dominated by women, in no particular order.

1. Social Worker

The first on our list of 10 is a social worker. For those who don’t know, a social worker is someone who works with individuals or families on solving, understanding, and coping with issues. These issues are not small, nor are they all the same. There can be a wide variety of issues that social workers help families with. Therefore, they’re a necessity to society. Furthermore, they’re a critical factor in the healing and positive outcomes of the constant problems that they deal with. To put it simply, they help people. They want to see the people they work with succeed and live happier lives.

The average salary for a social worker is approximately $47,000. This is a fairly acceptable amount to earn for most people. However, as you gain tenure in the industry, your value increases. Therefore, you’ll be able to negotiate a salary that is much higher than what you’re seeing here. Depending on your experience and company you’re employed under, you can see a pay increase as high as 25% later on in your career. However, there are possibilities of earning much more than that.

Lastly, this is a women-dominated industry. However, the ratio may astound you. Currently. 85% of the industry is occupied by women. Out of all the choices on the list, this is probably the profession that has the greatest gap between the representation of men and women.

A nurse or registered nurse is the backbone of any hospital. As a nurse, you’ll have a list of duties that you’ll need to fulfill on a daily basis. Furthermore, nurses are known to work long shifts. The list of duties for a nurse is (but are not limited to) monitoring and reporting patient conditions. Furthermore, nurses will have to keep track of patients’ medical histories, reports, give medication, and monitor any effects.

To put it simply, a nude is responsible for the care and well-being of the patients at their location. They also assist doctors and physicians in their work. As you can expect, being a nurse can be quite a lucrative occupation.

As you can see, on average a nurse can earn over $60,000 dollars. Furthermore, they have the opportunity to have an increased salary depending on their tenure, experience, and specialty. A registered nurse that does house calls and provides long-term or 24/7 care for families has the opportunity to earn more money.

The gap in representation between men and women in this filed is quite astounding. Women occupy a staggering 88% of the industry. Making it one of the most woman-dominated industries in North America. Becoming a nurse takes a lot of dedication, time, effort, and schooling. However, it’s in high demand, is very lucrative, and provides a necessary service to those in need.

3. Human Resources Manager

Next on our list is a Human Resource Manager. Hr managers have a number of responsibilities. However, to put it simply, they look after the employees of an organization. This means that they look after the policies and compliance of staff. That means, if you’re having a problem with your manager or supervisor, the people to look to is hr. Furthermore, hr managers ensure that everything is compliant with the law on all levels. This means both country and province-wide.

If you’re thinking of becoming an hr manager, you’re in luck. This is due to the fact that the field is relatively in demand. Furthermore, you can acquire a position within hr without getting a specified undergrad. There are various online courses and certificates that’ll allow you to become qualified.

In terms of salary, hr managers earn quite a bit. Coming in at over $65,000 per year on average, those who’re in this position are earning quite a comfortable amount. However, compared to our last two professions. The earnings potential later on in your career isn’t as high. Of course, it’ll be higher than your current amount. However, it won’t be an extraordinary pay increase like 30%.

In terms of female to male representation, the gap in this industry is also quite remarkable. In the role of hr managers, females occupy an astounding 85% of positions. That makes this job on par with nurses and social workers.

4. Kindergarten Teachers

If you were looking for a field that is women-dominated and involves interacting with kids, look no further. Kindergarten teachers are extremely important. They’re tasked with, not only preparing kids to move onto further grades, but inspiring kids to want to learn. Kindergarten teachers are constantly trying to bring out that creativity, and passion. This is by no means an easy task.

Some kids are shy while there’s don’t like to listen. These teachers are tasked with finding how each kid learns and helping them through this part of their development process. Kindergarten teachers are also tasked with implementing rules and teaching what is or is not appropriate during social interaction.

Unfortunately, kindergarten teachers earn a bit on the lower side. However, you have the potential to earn much more than this later on in your career. Therefore, kindergarten teachers have the opportunity and potential to increase their earnings as much as 30% later on in their careers. This could take the $40,000 you’re seeing and add an additional $10,000.

The reason for the large increase is because years of experience within the industry has a large impact. The early stages of a child’s life are important. Therefore, it’s only suitable to be compensated accordingly once you’ve spent time learning and growing throughout the industry.

Before we tell you how much of the industry is dominated by women, I’d like you to take a guess. I’d like to say that the amount far exceeds the previous entries. Women occupy a remarkable 97% of the industry.

5. Nutritionist

Next on our list is a nutritionist. I must admit, I had no idea that this industry was dominated by women. Personally, I assumed that it was an even 50%. However, I was completely wrong. A nutritionist is a person that everyone should see at least once.

They look at your lifestyle and dietary habits. After, they make a recommendation. However, you should go to them with a specific goal in mind. For example, you want to lose weight and don’t know where to start. A nutritionist will get your advice on what you should be eating to lose that weight while acquiring the necessary nutrients to lead a healthy life.

A nutritionist, on average, earns around $45,000. However, This number can be quite misleading as there are a number of ways that you could earn more than this. First, you can be a personal nutritionist for athletes or maybe an organization. Furthermore, nutrition is very information and knowledge-dense. Therefore, as you become more knowledgable and grow your client base, you can increase prices. This is most likely why they can have a late-career income increase of over 50%.

Lastly, as I stated earlier, this is a very woman-dominated field. To be more precise, women count of 91% of the jobs in this particular field. This is based on a survey of over 200 participants.

6. Hairstylists

Hairstylist is another industry that is mainly dominated by women. The job entails exactly what the name implies, they style hair. However, the best hairstylist is those who develop the proper techniques and apply best practices to their work. Therefore, they most often attain the most optimal result which results in a satisfied customer. Furthermore, if the customer requests specific hair treatments, the stylist should oblige. To some, $34,000 may be a turn off because it is a relatively low amount of a job that takes a lot of time and skill. However, you have the opportunity to earn exponentially more than what is displayed above. For example, you can become freelance once you’ve gained enough experience and charge your own rates. Furthermore, you can open up a salon, hire some people, and earn money from your own clients and from the business side.

In terms of gender representation, women account for 92%. This is another woman-dominated job that has the potential to become a very lucrative business.

7. Nail Technician

Next is a nail technician. A nail technician is an individual who tends to a client’s needs pertaining to their nails. For example, a nail technician will apply acrylic or shellac treatments. This can be both on your hands and feet. Therefore, nail technicians perform both manicure and pedicures. A nail technician can also give advice on how to properly care for your nails. This includes further treatments and maintenance while at home.

Unfortunately, nail technicians earn the lowest amount of money on our list. However, similar to the hairstylist, you can become freelance or up your own business. Running a successful business or having a large clientele with your own custom pricing can skyrocket your income. Nail technicians, as expected, are mainly female. However, they’re currently in the second place spot with a staggering 95% female representation.

8. Realtor

Being a realtor or real estate agent is a job that has become quite popular recently. This is due to the fact that it breaks the monotony of a 9-5 job. furthermore, it offers the opportunity to make quite a lot of money through their commission structure. Real estate agent

As you can see, real estate agents are some of the highest earners on this list. However, in real estate, earning this much money tends to be rather inconsistent. Therefore, it is expected that your yearly earnings may be either lower or higher than this. However, it more likely that you’ll earn far less than this early on in your career. This is due to the fact that you haven’t built up a reputation and are still learning the business. Real estate is an industry that is only slightly dominated by women. In a survey created from 95 participants, it seems that women represent just over 50% of the industry.

9. Hotel General Manager

A hotel general manager is a great career to dive into. Not only does it involve customer interaction but you will be able to manage a hotel and all of its operations. Furthermore, you’ll be responsible for the various departments and performing audits to make sure the hotel’s finances are in check. This is essential when looking to move up in this specific line of work.

Hotel

Hotel managers can earn a fair amount of money. However, they have a lot of room to increase their yearly earnings as they gain more experience. Managing a hotel is no small task. Therefore, if someone is able to manage a hotel efficiently while mitigating costs, companies will be willing to compensate accordingly.

Similar to realtors, general managers of hotels have a fairly even male to female representation, Women, however, overtake men being just over 50% of the representation.

10. 911 Dispatcher

As a 911 dispatcher, you play a crucial role in emergency response situations. When someone calls with an emergency, it’s up to you to help the person through situations, forward calls, provide directions, gain information, and dispatch emergency services to the appropriate location. As you can assume, this is a high-stress job. This is due to the fact that there is a lot of pressure and not communicating properly can lead to a situation getting worst.

emergency dispatcher

Emergency dispatchers earn approximately $40,000. However, just like any other job, you have the opportunity to earn more than this. This opportunity may come as you gain more experience, and learn new skills. Furthermore, some industries can offer higher earnings such as security.

That’s All She Wrote

That brings us to the end of the list. I hope that you walk away with the information and knowledge you didn’t have before. However, it is important to note that these incomes and representation gaps are based on surveys. Therefore, they will not be a 100% accurate representation of the industry as a whole. However, it is a good starting point for those who’re looking for general knowledge. Female/male representation can be high or lower. Furthermore, the earnings potential can also be high or lower.
